The Peele Cemetery, Site of the Peelle Monument

The Peele Cemetery was founded in 1856 by Robert Peelle (1801-1864) and his wife Mary Adams (1806-1895), our Great-Great-Grandfather - the 8th generation of our lineage.  Robert settled in this area about 1816, he is the son of David Peelle and Priscilla Fletcher who died in Wayne County, NC.  Robert started this cemetery on his own land when he buried own son Jonathan Peelle (1832-1856).  Today, there are members of the 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th and 13th generations resting in this beautifully maintained oak-shaded, fenced and quiet cemetery.

This cemetery is located north west of the small town of Gibson, NC, on the NC/SC State line in Scotland County.  It is the location of our monument to The First Peelle Family In America.  For more information, see the page dedicated to the same.  The map below shows directions to the cemetery and our landmark.  The fence of the cemetery is on the NC/SC state line, shown here as the heavy line.

The cemetery is located in North Carolina but the southwest fence is the North Carolina - South Carolina state line.  It is maintained with funds donated primarily by Pearson-Peele family members.  There are several other cemeteries in this local area that have many descendents of our family, but this is the most important.  The table below lists those interred in its 72 graves in date of burial order, their generation number and number of children.
